Welcome

The Alpha Letter

My name is Andrew Folz. I began investing seriously about 15 years ago. I was working as a consultant for a now defunct Investment Bank. It was a very eye opening experience in many ways and really piqued my interest in managing my own affairs. Since that time I've made some mistakes and managed some success.

Can active management give an advantage over passive investing? If so at what cost? Can you still sleep? Follow along as we seek the Alpha er, the answers.

To give myself a challenge I've decided to benchmark myself against a goal of returning 20% annually on my portfolio. I go long and short US stocks. No options, no futures, etc. I am starting with 100K cash and will share the results as we go.

I enjoy writing and discussing anything trading related and intend to use this as an outlet for that by publishing market commentary and analysis here on a regular basis.

Here we are so far in 2012 (note this is a live refresh and so is always current)...
